About the Ann Arbor Branch

The Ann Arbor Branch was established in 1902. We currently have a membership of over 300 members who represent a variety of ages, backgrounds, and academic disciplines.

Our Focus

The Ann Arbor Branch provides educational and friendship opportunities for its members, supports community activities especially those that have positive impact on girls and women, and provides scholarships for women.

  • Fellowship: Our study groups and branch meetings give us time to get together and pursue common interests.
    • Branch meetings are held every third Tuesday of the month. Branch meetings feature speakers and presentations on a variety of topics. The Branch meetings include two luncheons per year.
    • More than 30 Interest Groups provide the opportunity for small groups to pursue specific interests. Interest groups are open to all members and meet regularly.
  • Scholarships: We support scholarships for undergraduate women at the U-M, EMU, Washtenaw Community College, and to local senior high school students who have enrolled in an institute of higher learning. Each year we also send thousands of dollars to the AAUW Educational Foundation for graduate fellowships.
    • To raise money for scholarships, members of the Branch organize an annual Used Book Sale that is held in September. The proceeds from the sale fund the scholarships.
  • Community Involvement: We participate in events for women and girls and join in coalitions for other events.
    • AAUW volunteers assist with special events that benefit girls and women in the community, events such as Brains Rule, a neuroscience event for middle school students.
